I haven't turned the heat on my apartment yet so when I woke up this morning it was very cold. I really didn't feel like taking a couple buses down to the New York East River Park Track just to run in 30 degree, windy weather, so I just went downstairs to the gym in my apartment building. Besides avoiding inclimate weather, the main advantage of running on a treadmill is the ability to set a pace and just run. The disadvantage is that, while I may have run at a faster pace than I may have otherwise on the track or road, I didn't train for the mental aspect of running a 6:18 pace, only the physical part. I need to be able to push myself to continue to run a 6:18 mile in the late stages of the half, without the help of a moving platform under my feet forcing me to run that speed. It's supposed to rain on Thursday morning, but I'd really like to be on the track again. I may wait until Thursday evening if it means avoiding the rain and being able to run outdoors.
(Actual results in red)
- 4 x 1 mile (400m rest) @ 6:20 pace | 6:18 pace for all four
- 6 x 200m (100m rest) @ 0:42 pace | modified: 6 x 40 sec on, 40 sec off @ 5:24/mile pace (0:40.5/200m pace)
